About Us

The Clubhouse Farm is owned by the Clubhouse Child Care Society, a registered charity that provides childcare and education programs in 9 locations in Kelowna. This is our only farm location (for now!).
On this 12.5 acre farm, we grow a variety of veggies, herbs and fruit. Produce is available seasonally in our roadside market, and eggs are available year round at our farm gate stand on Anderson Road. Seasonal chicken and pork is available by order.
We offer farm tours with agricultural educational programming by appointment only.

Project Design

The Clubhouse Farm began in 2012 to offer our daycare, preschool and school age children access to nature and fresh foods, and soon after received the BC Child Care Award of Excellence in Innovation. Our curriculum and Position Statement on Outdoor Play are based on a growing body of research from around the world.

There are numerous benefits to increasing the amount of time children spend outside in active free play. The outdoors provides opportunities for incidental learning, and an optimum platform for cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. Free play outside improves risk analysis, observation skills, academic performance, and most importantly: lowers stress and connects children to the natural world.

The outdoors also offers ideal spaces for curriculum delivery. Many lessons done inside can be done outside, often with broader benefits. Space and diverse context allows for many hands-on activities, and copious opportunities for redirection when necessary, reducing conflict and helping children build resilience, self-regulation, and lasting relationships.

Supported by our interdisciplinary and hardworking team, we have documented successes in both the field of education and child care. From therapeutic benefits for children, to offering an interactive learning platform, to growing local food while supporting biodiversity, this model supports elements for sustainable community development.

We hope you enjoy your time in our outdoor classroom. It has space to play, learn, bake, cook, dig, garden, run, explore, or just relax in the shade!

Mission

To produce local food for our community while connecting children to the land and where food comes from.

Impact

Many children today are disconnected from the processes behind our meals, and may only see food coming from grocery stores. They can easily misunderstand the plants, animals, and practices that make our meals possible. We bridge this gap by giving children the opportunity to see firsthand how food is grown and produced. Hands-on activities such as seeding, mulching, weeding, harvesting and preparing are valuable learning experiences that encourage connection to the natural world.
